Quick answer

Navagio (Shipwreck Beach) is a white cove on Zakynthos's north-west coast, walled by cliffs, with the rusting wreck of the Panagiotis. Because of rockfalls, landing on the beach has been restricted in recent years. Most visitors see it from a boat or from the viewing platform on the cliff top. Check the current rules locally before you book a trip that promises a landing.

Two ways to see it

  • From the sea: boat trips leave from Porto Vromi (the closest, about 15–20 minutes) and from Agios Nikolaos in the north, often combined with the Blue Caves.
  • From above: the viewing platform near the monastery of Agios Georgios Krimnon looks straight down on the cove. Stay behind the barriers.
  • Go to the viewpoint in the morning for the best light, and before the coaches arrive.

Good to know

  • The ship ran aground in 1980; the beach was made famous by photos taken from the cliff top.
  • The sea on the west coast gets rough in strong wind; boats may not run.
  • Rent a car or scooter to reach the viewpoint; it's a winding drive up from the south or east.
  • Combine with Porto Limnionas or Kampi for sunset on the same coast.
